FME acts as a two-way bridge between proprietary systems and open source databases such as PostgreSQL, PostGIS, MySQL and SQLite, and also allows easy conversion of OGR and GDAL supported formats into dozens of proprietary formats. FME enhances the value of FDO data access technology by consuming data from FDO data providers, transforming the data to provide the exact view of the data needed, then delivering the data in the model required by numerous proprietary applications. Conversely, FME also acts as a data provider to FDO, greatly extending the number of formats supported by FDO. As well, FME acts as a wrapper for GEOS, extending the functionality of GEOS to data in many different formats.
