The Web Processing Service allows performing geo-processes on the web by generating information on the fly from distributed data provided by common OWS (Web services based on Open Geospatial Consortium standards, such as WFS, WCS). This distributed notion of WPS was the driving force to initiate a new client development at 52°North and to provide the user with a new way of integrating web-based geo-processes in their GIS environment. As uDig provides comprehensive capabilities for integrating and visualizing web-based data services, we decided to choose udig as the open-source platform for realizing our new vision on integrated information generation through a WPS from distributed data.

The talk will give an overview of the developed uDig WPS client plug-in. The main focus will be on the client’s architecture, the integrated client approach and the main features (e.g. sending raw data by reference or by value). Finally, the client will demonstrate its powerful capabilities in the context of a distributed data scenario for fire risk assessment.
